Peaceful and wild, the Loire reserves many surprises. Dotted with small islands, it is a world apart and its great diversity is renewed from one spate to another. The Loire is a real nature reserve which knows how to share its riches: how enjoyable it is to stroll along the Loire, the banks and islands of which are home to an outstanding flora and fauna!
Orléans has always been linked to the Loire. The quaysides, proof of the intense river trade, still shows the traces of this ancient activity. At that time, the royal river was the main economic route in France, and Orléans was the largest warehouse in the country.
Today, the Loire is a UNESCO World Heritage site and, every two years, Orléans pays it tribute by devoting a Festival to it! 21 au 25 septembre 2011
