The Loiret River rises in la Source, which is the farthest district of Orleans city center, near la Source castle where Voltaire used to live when he was writing Candide; the castle is now handling the administrative department of the universities. This district comprised a part of Olivet and Saint Denis en Val before its construction during the 60s.
Les Floralies, which lasted the all year 1967 in Parc Floral (35 hectares), welcomed millions of visitors. Special trains were even chartered in order to serve the line Paris-Orléans/Orléans-Paris.
