Sailing on the Loire
Ile Charlemagne also has a Loire sailing school on futreaux (specially designed Loire River boats).
In order to give life back to sailing on the Loire, Orléans Municipality, in cooperation with the Association des Compagnons Chalandiers, is encouraging the construction of futreaux. Four of these authentic Loire boats have already been built and the aim is to obtain a fleet of 12 futreaux so that a proper Loire sailing school based on Ile Charlemagne can be created, something which, to date, exists nowhere else.
