Orléans is rightfully known for its vinegar making tradition from a time when Loire boatmen plied their trade in wines from Touraine and Angers, the stability of which was not always perfect. Over the years, the wines turned and became vinegary with more or less developed tastes, offering a range of flavours which, very quickly, the best chefs adopted for themselves.

Made from a long forgotten recipe dating from 1580, Orléans mustard was revived in 2002 thanks to the vinegar maker Martin Pourret. Its smooth and creamy paste is a delicious mixture of top-of-the-range ingredients which include Guérande salt and the famous Orléans vinegar. Refined and full-flavoured, its aromas will delight your taste buds.
Sold in about a dozen cake shops, Orléans fruit macaroons are a new speciality of the town available in four flavours: strawberry deglazed in Orléans vinegar, pear and ginger compote, candied hazelnuts and rose petals, lime and cinnamon.

Developed by winemakers who love their region, the wines of Orléans are fruity and pleasant.
At the crossroads between North and South, the Orléans vineyards are a combination of Cabernet from the Loire Valley and Bordeaux and Pinot and Chardonnay from Burgundy. Planted on the banks of the Loire in around 510, these wines now have a good reputation recognised by an AOC certification.
