Gastronomic specialities
Some of these specialities are on sale in our shop, or are available at these addresses.

Le Cotignac

(On sale in our shop)
Delicately coloured quince jelly presented in a round spruce box. Le Cotignac has come down the centuries. It was already referred to in the time of Louis IX and was one of the most common gifts offered by Orléans to Kings and other personalities.

Le Vinaigre d'Orléans

(On sale in our shop)
Orléans is rightfully known for its vinegar making tradition from a time when Loire boatmen plied their trade in wines from Touraine and Angers, the stability of which was not always perfect. Over the years, the wines turned and became vinegary with more or less developed tastes, offering a range of flavours which, very quickly, the best chefs adopted for themselves.

La Moutarde d'Orléans

(On sale in our shop)
Made from a long forgotten recipe dating from 1580, Orléans mustard was revived in 2002 thanks to the vinegar maker Martin Pourret. Its smooth and creamy paste is a delicious mixture of top-of-the-range ingredients which include Guérande salt and the famous Orléans vinegar. Refined and full-flavoured, its aromas will delight your taste buds.

Les Macarons aux Fruits d'Orléans

Sold in about a dozen cake shops, Orléans fruit macaroons are a new speciality of the town available in four flavours: strawberry deglazed in Orléans vinegar, pear and ginger compote, candied hazelnuts and rose petals, lime and cinnamon.

Les Vins de l'Orléanais

(On sale in our shop)
Developed by winemakers who love their region, the wines of Orléans are fruity and pleasant.
At the crossroads between North and South, the Orléans vineyards are a combination of Cabernet from the Loire Valley and Bordeaux and Pinot and Chardonnay from Burgundy. Planted on the banks of the Loire in around 510, these wines now have a good reputation recognised by an AOC certification.

La Poire d'Olivet

Poire d'Olivet is made with William pears harvested in the orchards around Orléans. It is manufactured in two stages with, first of all, the distillation of the harvest for the year in progress, and, secondly, the bottling of the pears in spring while they are still just small branches, meaning that the pears grow inside the bottles.

Bière 'La Johannique' For more information

La Johannique is a traditional, unfiltered beer. Barley and wheat malt from Beauce, hops, spices, dried lemon peel, sweet and bitter orange and, finally, heather honey from Sologne, provide La Johannique with length and a subtle balance of bitterness and outstanding gentle aromas (La Johannique is available in 33cl, 45cl, 150cl magnum and two glass boxed sets, and 75cl).

Le Cendré d'Olivet

Creamy and delicately flavoured cow's milk cheese.

Les Praslines de Montargis

(On sale in our shop)
Created by a Chef of the Marshall Duke of Plessis-Praslin in the 17th century, the delicious rough and roasted almonds very quickly became known by the name of Praslines. Montargis, the town of their creation perpetuates this gourmet tradition thanks to the Mazet confectionery-chocolate factory.

Le Gâteau de Pithiviers

Fondant or flaky, this three-century old cake is made with almonds.

Le Safran du Gâtinais

(On sale in our shop)
Appreciated for its delicate and incomparable flavour in cooking, it also provides a beautiful yellow-orange colour.
